Paper craft project no. 309: Season’s greetings mixed media card

Back with another card — and this time it’s for The Mixed Media Card Challenge, where our theme this month is “HOME” and the optional element is “LACE”. I hope you’ll stop by the blog and check out the beautiful mixed media cards that the design team made. And we’d love it if you’d play with us too!

I did the background of my card using the same technique I did to create this card with some modifications. I stamped the newsprint in coffee archival ink then applied a thin layer of gesso. Then I painted stripes with Distress paints (mowed lawn, festive berries, mustard seed), added some splatters with Distress inks (blue sapphire), stamped the poinsettia, mixed Gelatos (gold champagne) with whipped spackle and applie it through a TCW reverse chicken wire stencils, and made the border by running the side of a green Japanese watercolor brush pen around the edges. I cut out the house, windows, and door from patterned paper and paper-pieced them. I stamped the Christmas tree in green archival ink on patterned paper and cut them out. I stamped the sentiment on scrap paper and swiped some peeled paint Distress ink over them. I adhered everything on my card with gel medium and I used a black marker to outline the house and trees.

Linking up my card to these fun challenges: (1) Weekly Christmas Card Challenge #53 – Anything Goes; (2) Sister Act Card Challenge #85 – Anything Goes; (3) Simon Says Wednesday Challenge – Anything Goes; and (4) Aud Sentiments Challenge #120 – Use a Sentiment for Any December Holiday.

Thanks for stopping by!

Paper craft project no. 294: ‘Tis the season mixed media card + video tutorial

We have a brand new challenge at The Mixed Media Card Challenge! Our theme this month is Christmas with bells as the optional element. So create a Christmas-themed mixed media card with or without bells and link it up to our challenge! We’d love to see what you come up with. For our definition of a mixed media card, click here. The challenge runs until November 25 so plenty of time to create and play!

We have STAMPlorations as our sponsor too and there are 2 prizes up for grabs. Create a mixed media card that has the optional element for a shot at a $15 gift certificate. If you stick to just the theme, you still get a shot at winning 1 stamp set. Do check out the cards the mixed media card girls made — you’ll be blown away!

For my mixed media card, I used archival inks, Distress inks, Twinkling H2Os, Gelatos, water soluble oil pastels, and Chameleon Color Tones. I used Holiday Sketches: Christmas Bells and Holiday Sketches: Christmas Flower. Here’s a video showing how I created my card. It’s a shorty — a little over 9 minutes long, in fast-forward motion, captioned, and accompanied by Christmas music. I’d love to hear what you think!

Paper craft project no. 239: Noel

2014-08-15 OLC Noel

Hello! I’m squeaking this in to the current Less is More – One Layer Foliage. I played with one of the STAMPlorations holiday stamps coming out in September (preview them here). I stamped it 3 times along the side by masking the image then watercolored with Memento inks (pear tart, cottage ivy, northern pine, love letter). I stamped the simple sentiment in chalk ink (VersaMagic midnight black), added some Diamond stickles on the center of the poinsettias, and rounded one corner. [The MIL liked the card so I’m making her several of these for her Christmas mailing. It’s never too early to start making those holiday cards!]

I’d also like to enter this card to these 4 other fun challenges: Addicted to Stamps and More #108 – Holiday; Craft for the Craic #7 – A Craft Item You Have Never Used Before (the stamps are brand new — it’s my first project using the stamps); Weekly Christmas Card Challenge #37 – Color Challenge (I used two shades of green and red); and Completely Christmas Challenge #24 – Anything Goes.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
