One Layer Card No. 39: Merry Christmas

2013-09-20 One Layer Card Merry Christmas
Here’s an A2 one layer card I made for the current Lawnscaping Challenge #64. The challenge is to use any of the Distressing products. I love distress inks so I knew I had to create a card for this challenge! I used masking and blending/sponging techniques to create this card.

Edited to add: I’m entering this card to the Holiday Card Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

Stamps: music background (Fiskars); Christmas text background (Penny Black); snowman (Inkadinkado); sentiment (QuicKutz)
Inks: jet black (Ranger Archival ink); vintage photo, broken china, barn door, peeled paint (Tim Holtz Distress inks)

One Layer Card No. 28: Happy holidays

2013-08-05 One Layer Card Happy holidays

A2 card using masking, repetition, second-generation stamping, layer stamping, distressing, and blending techniques.

Stamps: holly (Hero Arts); sentiment (QuicKutz, Imaginisce); background text (Penny Black)
Inks: jet black, coffee, sienna, emerald green (Ranger Archival inks); old paper, shabby shutters, peeled paint, crushed olive, pine needles, vintage photo (Tim Holtz Distress inks)

Here are the steps for creating this one layer card:

1. Mask the upper and lower areas of card base with post-it notes.

2. Randomly stamp holly image in emerald green.

3. Starting with the lightest distress ink (old paper), distress the area with an ink blending tool. Slowly build up the layers of distress inks. (Tip: Don’t rush this step and don’t press the ink blending tool too hard on the card base.)

4. Stamp background text in coffee.

5. Remove masks and stamp sentiment.

Other: clear embossing powder (Zing!); heat tool (Ranger); tinted embossing ink (Ranger)

Steps for creating this one layer card:

1. Cover the upper 2/3 of card base with post-it note before sponging and blending peeled paint, old paper, and shabby shutters distress inks on the bottom area.

2. Ink text background with emerald green and stamp. Remove post-it note.

3. Ink reindeer with jet black and stamp.

4. Ink sentiment with sienna and stamp.

5. Ink sentiment with tinted embossing ink and stamp over the same area again.

6. Apply clear embossing powder. Tap off excess. Emboss with heat tool.

Entering this in Penny Black Inc’s Beat the Heat Challenge. (The PB Christmas text background I used is very versatile — I know I’ll be using it a lot in other projects, particularly Christmas tags.)
