Paper craft project no. 303: Season’s greetings CAS card

Hello! It’s time for a new challenge at Time Out Challenges. This fortnight, we’ve got a theme with an optional twist. The theme is embossing and the optional twist is sparkle. Our challenge is sponsored by Avocado Arts and one lucky winner will be randomly drawn from entries that have the twist. Our guest designer is Lesley of Always Playing with Paper. I hope you’ll come check out the blog to see what Lesley and my super creative teammates did.

Okay, this is the part where I’m supposed to describe how I made this card. But I’m going to do that a bit later, as I’m hurrying to get out the door and get to our favorite Thai restaurant for an impromptu Wednesday date night with the hubby! He decided he wanted to celebrate and take me out, and although I have a bunch of stuff I gotta do tonight, I don’t want to give him the chance to change his mind. He and Thai food aren’t really friends, but we go to Thai restaurants because he knows I like my pad thai. He said tonight, “I want to see you smile, so I’m taking you out for Thai.” <insert happy sigh here> :o) Then after we indulge in all that good food (I’m getting me vegetarian pad thai!), we’re headed straight to the gym to work it all off so we won’t be back until after this post goes live. So see you in a bit!

Well, that was a most  wonderful date night! I got to eat pad thai with my favorite guy and work it off right away at the gym! ;o) Anyway, as to how I made my card: I placed the front of my taupe brown card base inside a Sizzix embossing folder and ran the whole thing through my Cuttlebug. I sponged vintage photo Distress ink over the embossed areas. It was too brown for me so I sponged some barn door Distress ink to give it that burnt red/sienna look. Then I inked up the Christmas block with jumbo java chalk ink and stamped on the embossed areas for texture. On pre-cut diecut, I stamped the Christmas bells and colored them with Chameleon Color Tones pens. I layered metallic gold vellum and textured brown cardstock and adhered to my card base with foam tape. The sentiment is from SRM Stickers.

My card also doubles as a reminder card for my challenge blog, The Mixed Media Card Challenge, where this month we’d love to see mixed media Christmas cards with or without the optional element (bells). One lucky crafter who enters a card with the optional element will win a $15 gift certificate to use towards products in the STAMPlorations shop, and one (drawn from all entries) will win her choice of 3″ by 5″ stamp set. The challenge ends on November 25.

Linking up my card to the following fun challenges: (1) Addicted to Stamps and More 122 – Make Your Mark; (2) Love to Create #142 – Make It For Christmas; (3) Crafting When We Can #82 – Use Your Markers (2nd entry); (4) Stamping Sensations – Simply Christmas (2nd entry); and (5) Aud Sentiments #120 – Use a Sentiment for Any December Holiday.
