Paper craft project no. 233: Hello summer one layer mixed media card

2014-08-01 OLC Hello summer

Hello! It’s the first day of August and we’ve got a new challenge at The Mixed Media Card Challenge! Our first challenge was a success and we in the design team are so happy that our challenge is warmly received. Our theme for August is “Summer” with “burlap” as an optional element. Not sure what a mixed media card is? Here’s our definition as it pertains to our challenge.

I created a retro-inspired one layer mixed media card. I used cold-press watercolor paper (Canson) for my card base (7″ by 10″ scored and folded crosswise in half). I began by stamping the sunflower (from the Bloom Sketches set by STAMPlorations that’s scheduled to be released on the second week of August) in coffee archival ink then used Inktense blocks to loosely watercolor them. Next, I took out a couple of stencils by The Crafter’s Workshop (Specimens and Sketch Grid) and applied Distress inks (Broken China and Mustard Seed) with a sponge as well as a wet brush. I also stamped a grungy background (from the Mini Mixed Media Backgrounds) randomly in coffee archival ink, “hello” (from the Boxed Blooms & Bold Sentiments) in jet black archival ink, and “summer” (one which I hand-carved) in Memento Morocco dew drop ink. I also hand-carved a couple of blocks and I stamped them in alternating colors (Hero Arts Soft Cantaloupe and Soft Pool) to create my retro border. Last, I applied some Mango Gelatos around the edges of my card and rubbed with a wet finger.

I hope you’ll come check out The Mixed Media Card Challenge blog to see the projects that the talented girls in the design team created for this month’s challenge! And since our challenge is open until August 25, you’ve got plenty of time to share your summer-inspired mixed media cards — enter as many times as you like…there’s no limit :o)

I’d like to enter my card to the following fun challenges: Addicted to Stamps and More – Anything Goes; Simon Says Wednesday Challenge – Anything Goes; 4 Crafty Chicks Challenge – Anything Goes; Crafty Little Fairies – Summer Fun; and Freshly Brewed Challenge #2- By the Sea/Summer.
