Paper craft project no. 193: Life is beautiful mixed media canvas [with video tutorial]

2014-05-23 Life is beautiful mixed media canvas - closeup
One more post for today — quickie one since I have to run to town with DH. Here’s a mixed media canvas I worked on last night. I’ve been wanting to work on this for weeks but between my writing commitments and the memory card on my camera going bust, this got shoved in the back burner. I use die-cuts and stickers a lot in my mixed media projects — they’re wonderful to work with. In this canvas, I used die-cuts from K&Company (the flowers and frame) and stickers from SRM Stickers (“Life is Beautiful” and “it’s the little things that count” — I love how these stickers are transparent so they look like they are printed on the canvas). The butterflies and border at the bottom are stickers I found in my stash and ones I bought from the dollar store long ago. I fussy cut the vintage girl from a Pink Paislee PP. The rest is the usual schtuff: pages from a 1967 issue of Reader’s Digest for the background, Distress paints, gesso, gel medium, rub-ons, markers (Distress, Spectrum Noir, and Faber-Castell), and stamps (Mini Mixed Media Backgrounds set). Oh and the canvas is 8″ by 10″ — part of a 10-pack I scored at Wal-Mart a couple of years ago for just $8.

Took me a couple of hours to work on this project, including charging time because my camera ran out of battery during one of the segments (luckily it was just at the right time so I didn’t lose any video time). I’ve got the edited and sped-up version of the video (8 minutes, 45 seconds) so you’re spared of the boring stuff (those times when I’m thinking, talking to myself, and hunting for supplies). Like my other videos, this is in fast-forward motion, captioned, and accompanied by a Mozart clarinet concerto.

I’d like to enter this to these fun challenges: Crafting by Designs – May Anything Goes Challenge; Butterfly Challenge #8 – Butterfly Bingo (I used the center line in the grid: the flowers and frame are die-cuts from K&Company; the butterflies are stickers, and I cut the girl out from designer paper by Pink Paislee – I hope that’s an OK way to use DP for this challenge); Brown Sugar Challenge #95 – Anything Goes; Inkspirational Challenge #56 – Photo Inkspiration (instead of a girl holding balloons, I have mine holding a bunch of flowers — and the photo made me think of “celebrating life” so I picked sentiments that reflect that); and Polkadoodle #20 – Things with Wings.

Okay, I gotta go — hope you have a great weekend. It’ll be a long holiday weekend in the US, which means plenty of time to craft!!! Yay! Thanks for stopping by.
