Paper craft project no. 104: Happy anniversary, mom & dad

2013-12-29 CAS Happy anniversary
My card today is a very special one — it’s one I made for my parents because today is their 38th wedding anniversary.

On December 29, 1975, they had a civil wedding ceremony and the following year, they were blessed with their first child — me! They went on to have 3 more children. My parents are also blessed with 3 sons-in-law, 1 daughter-in-law, 2 grandsons, and 1 granddaughter. And while we’re doing some family accounting, I might as well share that my mom has 11 siblings, 3 dozens or so nieces and nephews (give or take a dozen since just about every year, I hear news that I have a new cousin — I’ve lost count!), and I’m guessing at least a dozen grandnieces and grandnephews (again, I don’t know the exact count — and I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never met many of them). My dad has two siblings and two (I think) nephews/nieces.

To create this card, I used my favorite card base of late and folded it in half so I have a 6″ by 9″ card. I masked the upper area before working on the bottom area. Using sketch #95 from the Retrosketches challenge blog as the basis of my design, I worked on each “ray” by masking it off first before sponging distress inks, stamping the floral swirl in white ink, and heat embossing with clear embossing powder. Rinse and repeat until all 5 “rays” are done.

Next, using a 6-in-1 punch (it isn’t branded because I bought it from eBay from a seller in Korea) I punched out a hexagon, lightly sponged the edges with distress inks, and adhered it to my card. Then I die-cut a hexagon, stamped my silhouette bridal couple in black, sponged the edges again, and then mounted it on my punched hexagon using foam dots. Finally, I cut a strip of watercolor paper, stamped my sentiment, sponged the edges again, and adhered it using foam dots. That’s it! Hope my mom likes the card :o)

I’m linking up this card to the following: Hiding in My Craft Room #130: Anything but Holiday!; Inkspirational #46: Anything Inkspirational Goes; and Keep It Simple #30: Anything Goes.
