Paper craft project no. 91: Holiday hexagon card

2013-11-26 Holiday hexagon card
When I saw The Paper Players Challenge #173: Shaped Card last Sunday, I knew I wanted to create a hexagon shaped card — I just needed to find time to squeeze it in between the Christmas card-making project I’ve been doing for my mom-in-law all week. My cards are typically A2 size, and I can’t remember the last time I made a shaped card, so it’s wonderful that TPP has this challenge this week.

To create this card, I started with an A2 card base (the usual — 140-lb cold-press watercolor paper) that I clear embossed with the distressed floral swirl stamp from STAMPlorations (I used Versamark watermark ink and Zing! clear embossing powder). Next, I got out the largest hexagon die I have (Spellbinders Nestabilities), but instead of using my Cuttlebug to cut my card, I traced the die on my card base and cut out the shape. Taking my sponge, I applied mustard seed distress ink over the card base. Next, I took another one of the distressed floral swirl stamps and stamped it in charcoal shadow ink (Hero Arts). On a scrap piece of watercolor paper, I stamped 3 images from the Holiday Hexagons set in Versamark watermark ink, sprinkled Stampendous blue tinsel embossing powder, heat embossed, cut out the shapes and used foam dots to mount them on my card base. I also stamped 3 different sentiments (from the Holiday Hexagons and Oh, Christmas Tree! sets) in Memento tuxedo black ink on scrap watercolor paper, cut them out, and adhered them to my card using foam dots. Finally, I affixed blue sequins to finish off the card. Card size: 4″ tall, 4.25″ wide.

I’m entering this card to a couple of challenges as well:  Addicted to Stamps and More Challenge #73: Holidays and Addicted to Stamps Challenge #70: Embossing.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you have an awesome Wednesday. Oh, and think of 3 things (or people) you’re thankful for. I guarantee thinking about them will brighten up your day!
