Paper craft project no. 89: Merry Christmas

2013-11-24 CAS Merry Christmas A

Continuing with my current project (that is, creating Christmas cards for the MIL), here’s an A2 CAS card inspired by 3 challenges: CAS(E) this Sketch #55, Dynamic Duos #80: Triple Threat Week, and CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #121: Create with 8.

Dissecting the challenges: I used the current sketch over at CTS and used the color palette at Dynamic Duos. The color combo is blushing bride, raspberry ripple, and pear pizzazz — which I interpreted as shades of pink, red, and green, respectively. Thus, I used ColorBox inks — rose coral (chalk ink) for the pink shade, moss green (pigment ink) for the green shade, and picante (pigment ink) for the red shade. I also used fired brick distress embossing powder for embossing the poinsettia hexagons. As for the CAS-ual Fridays create with 8 — well, I stamped the chevron 8 times across my card base in alternating pink and green inks :-)

I used 4 different STAMPlorations stamp sets to create this card — VIGNETTE: Chevron and Arrows, Holiday Hexagons, Holiday Artsy, and Distressed Floral Swirls. To create the card, I stamped the chevron border across my card base (140-lb cold-press watercolor paper from Canson). Next, I shadow-stamped the floral swirl on the area where I’ll place my hexagons, then stamped the ink blots/spatters. On a scrap piece of watercolor paper, I stamped my poinsettia hexagon 3 times in Versamark watermark ink, sprinkled the fired brick distress embossing powder, heat embossed, and then cut close to the edges. I stuck them to my card using foam dots. Then I stamped my sentiment in picante (red) pigment ink, affixed green sequins on the lower right of the chevron border to balance out the hexagons, and then finished the card by rounding off the bottom corners.

Thanks so much for taking a peek. I love reading everyone’s comments and appreciate the time my fellow crafters spend commenting — thanks so much in advance!
