Paper crafting project no. 71: Oh, Christmas tree!

2013-10-23 CAS Oh Christmas Tree
I’m keeping this blog post short and sweet today because I’ve got a ton of reading to do for my applied design class. That, and a tri-fold brochure assignment that’s due Monday. Okay, a little story about this card: I bought the Spellbinders nesting hexagons die set last week. It was on sale and it was impossible to pass up. It’s been on my craft table all week teasing me to use it. So tonight, just as I was getting ready to hit the books, I happened to glance at my craft table (big mistake!) and my eyes zeroed in on the dies — which is an amazing feat considering my craft table is a HUGE mess (it took me 5 minutes to find my acrylic block under all the clutter). What’s a girl gotta do but give in? (I’m trying not to give in to the urge to dip my hand into the pack of dark chocolate covered dried fruits on the kitchen counter as well!) I just had to give it a try and I thought I’d make a card for two challenges: CAS(E) this Sketch #50 (sketch below) and Less is More Week 142: Trees.

I kept the card’s color palette fairly simple: I used chipped sapphire distress ink and tuxedo black ink for sponging and the sentiment. And yes, I am still on an embossing kick (I’m afraid it’s become an addiction) so I clear embossed my Christmas tree (which is from the STAMPlorations Oh, Christmas Tree! clear stamp set, btw). And while I’ve got my Cuttlebug out, I busted out one of my Sizzix embossing folders and a QuicKutz square thin die. The latter is part of a set — I forget the name — that lets you create a Christmas mini-album and it’s got a bajillion other dies with it in a bajillion other shapes and sizes. (Okay, I’m exaggerating — there’s only about 50 or so dies in the set.) I bought it three years ago on eBay on sale and I can’t believe I never thought to use it until tonight! <<insert sound of me smacking my forehead here>>

Well, so much for keeping this thing short! I should be fine for tonight since I’ve got my crafting urge appeased somehow. Now about those chocolate covered fruits…

  4. The tree looks so pretty against the blue background -it’s looks like it’s covered in snow, against a night sky. Enjoy those nuts my friend! They are super healthy -and you know chocolate gives you endorphin so it’s all good! :)
