I’m itching to do some cards, but since we are still cleaning and re-organizing, I haven’t been able to make any new ones this weekend. I thought I’d share one of my early works — a mixed media canvas I did back in January when I was dabbling in mixed media and decided to make a go at being a mixed media artist. (I have sold several of my artworks and I am thrilled that they’ve got homes!) This particular canvas, Follow Your Heart, is my husband’s favorite — which is why I’m still torn between selling and keeping it. (I’ve put it up a few times on my Etsy shop, but kept deactivating the listing every couple weeks or so — now it’s up again there.)
I did this one on an 8-inch by 10-inch canvas panel (about 3/16″ thick). It is French vintage inspired. I worked on this late Sunday night and finished Monday morning. That weekend, I had been doing ATC/ACEOs and browsing online looking at tons of vintage ephemera. I have a couple of Tim Holtz’ Visual Artist clear stamps and I thought they were perfect for this project. I love purple so naturally I had to use purple acrylics. For painting the background, I used a regular kitchen sponge as my blending tool. (It works wonderfully!) It helped me achieve that muted, faded, vintage effect on the canvas I had envisioned in the beginning. After that, it was just a matter of stamping and decoupaging and stamping some more, and inking, doodling, and shading. I used acrylics (paint and ink), Prismacolor permanent markers, gel medium, rub-ons, distressed inks, and designer die cuts. It’s sealed with an acrylic sealer.
I’m linking this up to Inspire Me Fridays #121.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m hoping I’ll be able to get to my craft table later today and make cards! I’m also wanting to get started on a couple of mixed media canvases with a fall theme this week so we’ll see. Have a great week!
